Algorfa is a traditional Spanish village mainly untouched by tourism and so still maintains the traditional quaintness of a small Spanish village. With so many Spanish locations having succumbed to the tourist effect, it is a breath of fresh air to still be able to find a village that is Spanish, with all the wonderful character that Spain has to offer.

Algorfa is a short 35 minute journey from either Alicante or Murcia airports and both airports are catered for by all major airlines, including the budget airlines. Algorfa is a typical Spanish village and is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, which is enhanced by the dramatic backdrop of the Sierra de Crevillente Mountains. Algorfa can also boast 300+ days of sunshine, making it an ideal honeymoon location, no matter what time of the year your wedding is.

As Algorfa is not an area saturated with tourism, for those on a budget, it is a very inexpensive honeymoon location with apartments starting from as little as £170 per week.

So why Algorfa? What is there to see and do?

Imagine awaking to the wonderful aroma of the Lemon and Orange groves wafting in through your balcony doors, on the gentle breeze. After a leisurely breakfast on the balcony, you decide on a relaxing day on the beach. You take a trip down to the nearby spectacular Blue Flag beach, Guardamar del Segura, and spend the day enjoying the miles of clean golden sands, seafront promenades and peace and tranquillity; while the warm sea gentle laps at the sand.

If however today, you would rather try something a little bit more active, why not take a leisurely tour around the nearby beautiful historic city of Orihuela. Spend the day shopping in the many elegant shops and enjoying the historic gothic, baroque and renaissance buildings. Then stop for a spot of light lunch, in one of the many traditional tavernas, before setting off again on your leisurely sightseeing.

Of course, if you are feeling really energetic there is always the beautiful La Pedrera Nature Reserve, located between Algorfa and Orihuela, to explore. Here you can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, climbing and even swimming and horseback riding. If you want, you could just enjoy a romantic picnic in the secluded picnic areas.

Maybe today you fancy taking to the water? Then take a short drive to the Mar Menor (small sea), famously known as the largest salt lake in Europe. With a maximum depth of only 8m and temperatures higher than average, the area is renowned for its water sports and has many scuba schools and international standard sailing schools.

If Golfing is your passion, then you are in luck as the Costa Blanca is becoming known as The Golf Coast, with 15 Championship Golf Courses within the area. The nearest and only a short walk from the apartment is La Finca, one of the most talked about golf courses in Spain. An 18 hole golf course where non members are welcome. With the Costa Blanca averaging 300 days of sunshine, few days are lost to rain.

After a day spent as busy or leisurely as you choose, come the evening, if you decide not to eat in, there are always the local restaurants in Algorfa. Take a romantic moonlit stroll to one of the many restaurants that Algorfa has to offer. With the cuisine being both local and global, even the most discerning palette will find something to enjoy.

However if you are looking for a more lively evening out, you can always visit the nearby bustling coastal resort town of Torrevieja. With Torrevieja being located only 15 minutes drive away and full of shops, restaurants and bars, it makes a great evening out.

Then when you are ready for bed, come back to Algorfa for a quiet, restful night’s sleep, in preparation for another beautiful Costa Blanca day.

Algorfa is perfectly situated to offer a multitude of things to see and do, thereby making it the perfect European honeymoon destination.

Whether you are looking for activity or just somewhere to relax, and enjoy the company of your new husband or wife. Algorfa has it all.

Give the Costa Blanca, Spain a try and say “hola” to Algorfa!

Torrevieja and the Costa Blanca in Spain are easily two of the most popular tourist areas in the region, hosting people from all over the world. Surprisingly the area actually has a very large Irish and British group in their community. Tons of people from all of Northern Europe enjoy vacations in this area and many more go on to buy and own vacation properties and second homes.

You’ll easily find Torrevieja just 50 kilometers outside of Alicante to the Southwest of the city. Usually, travelers will come in through the Alicante Airport and use rental cars to travel around the area. The name of the city actually translates to “old tower” which is in reference to the old salt tower that was in the city through the 1800’s.

Now, if you’re looking for the greatest temperatures in Spain (year round) then The Costa Blanca is the place that you want to be. It’s much more cold and wet in the Costa Brava during the winter if you’re comparing actual Spain cities. If you grimace at the thought of hot and humid weather then you’ll like it far better than Costa del Sol, which is a location to the South. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, the climate in the Costa Blanca is actually one of the healthiest in the world.

The Costa Blanca actually translates to mean “the white coast”. This is located on the Eastern coast of Spain, which is engulfed by bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. The Costa Blanca stretches between the city of Denia up in the North, down to the city of Torrevieja to the south.

If you’re looking for an area that has a long summer then the Costa Blanca and the city of Torrevieja have just that. The winters in this area are mild still, and enjoy warm temperatures with not a lot of rain. You’ll be able as well to enjoy the spring and autumn months due to the fact of warm weather as well, however not as hot as they are during the summer months.

You’ll find that the less mountainous Torrevieja is a mostly flat region, with palm tree lined streets and sandy beaches. Also in the area are salt lakes, which act as both tourist attractions as well as one of the major industries of the area.

Again this area in Torrevieja is known for its salt production. When driving through this city as well as Alicante, salt lakes can be seen from the road. There is approximately one half million tons of salt produced each year from the huge salt mountains in the area. This is a major industry for the region, as well as for tourism within the region.

Actually, if you’re in for a natural health benefit then you’ll enjoy visiting one of the many spa’s in the area which tout the benefits that salt has on both the skin as well as for arthritis. These health benefits will help keep you relaxed in the area, as well as keep people coming back year after year to visit and enjoy fun in the sun up and down the coast of the Costa Blanca.

Vacationers from all over the world enjoy visits to Torrevieja and the Costa Blanca in Spain. People from many parts of northern Europe, and especially from Britain and Ireland enjoy the temperate climate in this region and often return again and again, even buying vacation homes in the Costa Blanca region.

Alicante is the largest airport in the area, so most visitors to Torrevieja arrive at Ali cant airport. Alicante is 50 kilometers from Torrevieja, so it is an easy trip from the airport to the city. Torrevieja means “old tower” and its name derives from an old salt tower that was there in the 19th century.

The Cost Blanca has the most perfect climate in Spain, at any time of the year. Other areas of the Spanish coast, as beautiful as they are, can have some weather issues. The Costa Brava, for example, can have its periods of cold, wet weather and the Costa del Sol, further to the south, can be hot and humid. Costa Blanca has such a nice climate that the World Health Organization has declared the climate one of the healthiest in the world.

Costa Blanca, which means “white coast” is located on the Eastern coast of Spain, on the Mediterranean. The region known as Costa Blanca runs from the city of Denia in the northernmost part, to Torrevieja in the south. Torrevieja, like the rest of the Costa Blanca has a typical Mediterranean climate, with long hot summers and warm springs and autumns.

The northern sections of the Costa Blanca have a hilly terrain, eventually leading up to the mountains, but where Torrevieja is located, in the southern stretch of the Costa Blanca, the area is flat with sandy beaches and palm trees lining the streets. One of the big attractions is the salt lakes, which attract thousands of tourists each year, and which also are a major industry in Torrevieja. The salt mountains of this region produce about 500,000 tons of salt per year. But the tourists come to the salt lakes since they believe that the extremely salty water is good for arthritis and skin disorders. Many spas in the area cater to this health movement, and even if you don’t have arthritis or a skin condition, these spas make a wonderfully relaxing vacation. Salt is so important that there is even a Museum of Sea and Salt!

Other attractions in the area are two water parks, which people enjoy during the summer months, an indoor sports center and a wonderful natural park. The Natural Parks of the Lagoons of the Mata has a wide variety of plants and animals and many species of birds that are native to the area and live there all year. Depending on the time of your visit, you may also see interesting diving birds that migrate here for the winter. And of course, since this is Torrevieja, there are salt baths in the park.

• Torrevieja was formerly a small Spanish fishing village with a population of roughly 2,000 people, Torrevieja meaning “Old Tower” was heavily damaged during the 19th century by an earthquake (1829), along with many other surrounding villages also being destroyed. The early years of Torrevieja and its history mention only a few houses and the old tower – inhabited mainly by fishermen.

• After the earthquake, Torrevieja became independent from the town of Orihuela and setup the ayuntamiento in the year of 1830.

• Apart from the Old Tower, Torrevieja has been known for its export of salt for many centuries exporting hundreds of thousands of tonnes of salt every year worldwide. Not only has the salt lakes been a source of business but all a sign of beauty with hundreds of rare birds visiting them every year, the protected areas are home to many species of bird rarely seen anywhere else in the world.

• Also, the salt lakes have been protected by the Spanish government and now have National Park status (1996), the climate produced by the surrounding salt lakes is said to be one of the healthiest climates in the world as said by the World Health Organisation. This is due to the mixture of constant year round warm temperatures and the rich minerals produced by the lakes. The natural salt lakes dry the air, reducing the humidity and producing a healthy atmosphere – especially good for arthritis sufferers.

• The town of Torrevieja has benefited throughout its modern history from the salt export business and has been blessed with the tourism that it brings every year from European holiday makers and Spanish alike in recent decades.

• Holiday makers flock to Torrevieja every year in their hundreds and thousands, the population increases ten fold during the summer months with the Spanish all driving to the coast to enjoy their holidays on the beach. In recent decades the British and Europeans have fallen in love with the area, making Torrevieja their home as well.

• Torrevieja is an extremely popular town to have a second home / holiday home abroad, built up of apartments and townhouses in the town centre, with small urbanisations surrounding the town boasting villas and bungalows.

• Whether you are visiting Torrevieja for the day, buying a holiday home or living in Torrevieja permanently – there is plenty for all to see and do, take a walk along the promenade to visit the markets and stalls, there is also a large market in the main centre on friday’s (early morning until 2pm), there are dozens of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, local shops for those that enjoy bargain hunting, a fish market, the harbour or even relax on the beach for sun lovers. The Habaneras shopping centre which is located just outside the main town centre – which is relatively new – offers high street name shopping, the large shopping chain of Carrefour is directly next to Habaneras with many bars and restaurants located to the other side with a casino, bowling ally and cinema.

• Also nearby is a water park to take the kids to make sure they are worn out before you get back home for the evening!

• If lazing about is not your cup of tea and you like to be a little bit more active – there are plenty of sports to get involved with clubs and activities such as sailing, diving, tennis, bowls, athletics, football, gyms, golf and even cricket and rugby!

• Other places of interest include: Go karting on the Orihuela Costa, cinema in Pilar de la Horadada, salt muesum, boat trips out of Torrevieja, fishing trips, more weekly markets in surrounding towns and villages.

• If you want to venture out from Torrevieja, you are ideally placed to visit the two main cities which are either side of Torrevieja, Alicante and Murcia – only roughly 30 – 40 minutes drive each way.

• Also having an airport either side in San Javier (Murcia) and Alicante is also very handy so you can take you pick when booking your flights to visit the area.

Property in Torrevieja

• Property prices have risen dramatically over the past decade or so in Torrevieja, however – with the recent credit crunch and eastern countries joining the EU and offering cheap properties – property in Torrevieja is much more reasonable in price and is still attracting buyers.

Take the step and live the dream in Spain like many happy buyers have done. Before you look anywhere else – look at the Resale Centre, the longest established Estate Agent in Torrevieja town centre.

- Low commission Estate Agents with dozens of bargains for sale in Torrevieja.

Torrevieja, Spain is located a little over thirty miles south Alicante along the Costa Blanca coastline. It is in the Province of Alicante situated half way between Alicante and Cartegena and east of Murcia. No different than many of cities on the Costa Blanca, tourism is a central to Torrevieja’s economy and offers all tourists plenty to do during their stay. It is particularly a popular destination for British, German and Scandinavian tourists with its population largely European. The summer climate is very hot while the winters are rather mild. With its beautiful summer climate, though, it is one of the most popular vacation areas in the Costa Blanca.

The region around Torrevieja is known for its natural salt production producing about a half a million tons of salt annually. The salt is produced from its two nearby salt lakes. Originally, the city was only a small salt-mine and fishing village but with the growth in tourism, it has expanded to meet the tourism demand. Presently, salt, fishing and tourism are Torrevieja’s main economic forces but its salt production also has benefits for its tourists. The Natural Park of the Lagoons of the La Mata and Torrevieja is a protected park in the area and especially noted for its population of flamingos among other exotic birds. For the visitor, the park offers more than simply beautiful scenery but also offers relaxing salt baths. Salt baths offer many health benefits and are especially beneficial for illnesses such as arthritis and certain skin conditions.

There is no shortage of shopping opportunities in Torrevieja with thousands of shopping establishments as well as one of the largest open markets in Spain, offering fruits, vegetables, crafts, jewelry and many other goods. Note, though, that all markets are not open every day. For example, the main market in Torrevieja is only open on Fridays while the craft market is only open on the weekends.

If not shopping or enjoying the natural park, there is always golf to play in the Costa Blanca. The Torrevieja Golf Club is one of many great golf courses in the area. Fees range from thirty five to eighty Euros depending on the course and season. Because of its beautiful climate, Torrevieja has become a popular golfing destination. There will be no need to travel far to find the perfect golf course, as there are several large courses in the area.

The Alicante International Airport is the closet airport. Upon arrival at the airport, there are numerous transportation choices available for you to reach the city including the bus, a taxi or local car hire companies. Whether you simply need to reach Torrevieja or prefer the freedom of your own car, there is no need to worry about transportation during you stay in Torrevieja.
